DERMAPLANING

Dermaplaning is a safe and painless clinical treatment that deeply exfoliates the epidermis by sloughing off dead skin cells and vellus hair, better known as peach fuzz. By stimulating cell turnover and clearing out the buildup of dirt and oils in the follicles, dermaplaning delivers an instant glow! As with any type of exfoliation, removing keratinized skin cells facilitates deeper absorption of skin care products, rendering them substantially more effective at providing a healthy and radiant complexion.

Try our Fuzzless Peach Facial or add dermaplaning as an enhancement to any of our other facial treatments.

“I just had the “Fuzzy Peach”facial by Angela DeFilippis OMG. I literally feel like a snake that has shed its own skin…not to mention how thoroughly relaxing it was. Can not recommend more! 10 out of 10! Do yourself a huge favour and book with her. I made another appointment on the spot.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that uses a sterile and single-use scalpel to gently remove the layer of dull, dead skin cells and vellus hair to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion.
No, dermaplaning will not alter your natural hair growth. Although there is a common misconception surrounding the removal of peach fuzz (vellus hair), dermaplaning will NOT result in darker, coarser hair (known as terminal hair).

Dermaplaning is a painless treatment that includes deep cleansing and professional exfoliation, followed by restorative treatment and finished with skincare suited to your unique skin concerns. Some say it feels similar to when you scratch or rub your face, while others compare it to the sensation of shaving with a manual razor. You may hear a slight scratching sound as the scalpel gently scrapes over the surface of your face.

Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types with the exception of those with active breakouts and men with dense facial hair. If you have active acne, it is necessary to wait until breakouts are healed before trying this treatment. In the meantime, some of the other treatments that we offer would be more appropriate. As always, discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities before starting a treatment.
This is an excellent treatment if you are pregnant or nursing, as it will provide deep exfoliation, WITHOUT the chemicals.
Dermaplaning can be an effective exfoliation method for clients with couperose (tiny blood vessels near the surface of the skin), sensitive skin, or allergies that prevent microdermabrasion or chemical peels.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Although it is impossible to list every potential risk and complication, the following conditions are recognized as contraindications for dermaplaning treatment and must be disclosed before treatment.  As your skin therapist, I will perform a thorough skin analysis before your first dermaplaning treatment. If dermaplaning is deemed inappropriate, you will be informed during this session, and an alternative treatment may be recommended.

Following the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may look pink.  More sensitive skin may experience some redness after the first couple of sessions. This normally goes away after a few hours.

DERMAPLANING POST-TREATMENT/HOME-CARE:

You are investing in your skin: therefore, it is beneficial to continue to protect it long after your treatment is completed.

  • Vigorous exercise &  physical activity should be avoided until all redness has subsided
  • Avoid saunas/steam/hot showers until all redness has subsided
  • Direct sunlight exposure must be completely avoided immediately following the treatment (including tanning beds)
  • SPF 30+ MUST be worn at all times (for a minimum of two weeks)
  • Cleanse the treated area with a gentle cleanser (using only your hands), followed by a hydrating serum or treatment cream
  • Use a clean pillow case the first couple of nights after treatment

Dermaplaning removes 21-30 days worth of dead skin cells, so it’s best to allow the skin to complete its rejuvenation cycle before your next treatment.  As such, this treatment can be performed every 3-4 weeks.

Dermaplaning is a form of manual exfoliation similar in theory to microdermabrasion but without the use of suction or abrasive crystals. An esthetician-grade, sterile blade is stroked along the skin at an angle to gently “shave off ” dead skin cells from the epidermis. Dermaplaning also temporarily removes the fine vellus hair of the face, leaving a very smooth surface.

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation process that does not use acids or enzymes to remove dead skin cells. The entirety of the exfoliation is achieved during your treatment.  Unlike with peels, after dermaplaning you will not visibly shed skin in the days following your service.  Dermaplaning provides an excellent alternative to peels for those who desire professional-grade exfoliation without the chemicals and potential downtime.
